One of the most poignant Indian films of modern times
Through the doors of ‘Patiala House’ lies the story of a father-son relationship at a cross-cultural dichotomy...
One of the most poignant and exciting film projects of 2010, Nikhil Advani’s ‘Patiala House’, has seen full-swing filming take place at locations across UK, including Southall, Harrow, Covent Garden, Lords, Oval and Nottingham Trent Bridge cricket grounds.
Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho, Salaam E Ishq) directs the affecting tale of a son trying to navigate his own way through life while still adhering to his father’s projected ideals and aspirations, but finally deciding to walk his own path. ‘Patiala House’ masterfully blends emotion with humour and will have audiences simultaneously shedding tears of pathos and happiness.
Bollywood superstar, Akshay Kumar, has been joined by fellow cast members including starlet, Anushka Sharma, acting veterans, Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, alongside top international cricket players and stalwarts including David Gower, Nasser Hussain, Andrew Symonds, Simon Katich and John Emburey among a host of others, for what is set to become one of the most profound and anticipated international film releases of 2010.
Kumar delivers the performance of a lifetime and is joined by a stellar cast of co-stars including rising star, Anushka Sharma, veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, and British-Asian rapper, Hard Kaur. The film also features cricketers from the India, England, Australia and Pakistan teams including three former England Captains David Gower, Nasser Hussain and John Emburey, Andrew Symonds, Simon Katich and Pakistani wicket keeper Kamran Akmal.
The cast and crew have wowed onlooking fans and the multitude of UK-based film extras at each of the locations at which ‘Patiala House’ filming has taken place. An entertainment film with a strong social message, ‘Patiala House’ is a film about British Asian identity and the conflicts that arise between generations.
‘Patiala House’ is a film that extends far beyond the cricket pitch – the game is just a catalyst, a tool adopted to touch upon the real message of the film, namely to fulfill one’s dreams and seize the second chance that life offers us, if we missed it the first time round.
What do you think about the film.. Can Nikhil Advani recreate the magic of Kal Ho Na ho..
